The organization and functioning of cells relies on the molecular interaction of biological components that specifically associate in networks to transmit signals from the membrane to the nucleus and among cells. Our research interests are focused in contributing to the defining of interaction networks in two different modalities:

Molecular basis of protein-protein interaction specificity
The formation of signalling networks is often aided by different families of protein domains that recognise binding motifs on the surface of the target protein. We have contributed in elucidating the recognition specificity of SH3 domains (Panni et al. 2015, Tonikian et al 2009, Panni et al. 2002), 14-3-3 proteins (Panni et al. 2008, Panni et al. 2011, Pallucca et al 2014) and PDZ domains (Sacco et al. 2014, present studies) and in investigating on their functional role.

Construction and characterization of protein-ncRNA interaction networks
Recently, a multitude of studies have shown the relevance of ncRNAs in regulatory networks. However, few public repositories collect this information to make it available in standard format to help data sharing. In collaboration with the IntAct database ( we have constructed and analysed the yeast ncRNAs network (Panni et al. 2017) and we are presently working on human microRNA network.
